How To Extend Your Galaxy Nexus Battery Life

How To Extend Your Galaxy Nexus Battery Life
Samsung’s newest Galaxy Smartphone is the Galaxy Nexus, offered by Verizon. It comes with everything you could possibly want in a Smartphone except a battery that will last a full day. The super hardware of the Galaxy Nexus plus Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich OS makes the phone a dream to use. It’s fast, powerful, and the screen is amazing. However, the price of this marvel is that the battery discharges at an alarming rate.

There’s a simple “fix” to help your battery last a full day. James Kendrick, ZDNET Mobile News, was kind enough to pass along a simple method to greatly help keep the juice in your Galaxy Nexus battery. Apparently the very thing that makes the Galaxy Nexus so great is also the main culprit in draining the battery. It’s the LTE connectivity. By simply setting the “Preferred Network Mode” to CDMA instead of LTE/CDMA, you can turn off the 4G connectivity. It’s a toggle switch that you can turn back on when you want high speed, and then turn back off when you are done to save the battery power. Once you have changed this setting you should be able to get a full day out of your battery before you have to tie it to the charging umbilical cord. According to James Kendrick, “Go into the main Settings, hit the More option and Mobile Networks is the last one. Tap it and then select the Network Mode. Choose the CDMA selection and you are good to go. You have just turned off LTE for default connectivity and your battery will thank you.”

Have you considered a spare battery? Another option is to get an External Back-Up Battery Pack. This will give you an additional 1900mAh of battery juice when you need it most. Be sure you have a car charger for those emergencies as well as USB Charging Data Cable so you can get a little extra juice from your laptop for your phone. So there are options to help you out, but I do recommend turning off the LTE 4G connectivity until you need it.
