Situations When a Cooling Fan Is Needed

Situations When a Cooling Fan Is Needed

You are never far from a cooling fan of some sort. It's one of the many things we don't appreciate on a daily basis, but without which our modern lifestyles wouldn't be possible. Essentially, cooling fans save the day by stopping different types of machinery and people from overheating. Consider some of their most common applications.

Computing

In computing, a cooling fan is needed to protect the central processing unit from overheating. Too much heat can result in the computer shutting itself down, or, in the worst case scenario, can cause the central processing unit to melt.
Therefore every computer has a fan inside the case that either brings cool air into the unit, draws hot air out of the unit, or forms part of a heat sink, a separate product designed to draw heat away from individual components.
PC cooling fans can age, and do collect dust so they require cleaning and in some cases replacement.
If you are a business owner or an individual with your own network and network server, a server cooling fan is also much needed. Similarly to computers, servers rely on heat-sensitive components to perform, and these need to be cooled down to avoid serious malfunction and resulting data loss.
Consult a professional on the type of cooling fan you should invest in. These vary from brand to brand, and the shape and size of computer or server components. Fitting the wrong fan could be dangerous.

Emergencies

Fans have many emergency applications. Overheating is easily caused by fires, industrial accidents, and natural disasters.
Emergency cooling could also be needed when temperatures reach extreme highs, when certain groups in society such as the elderly are very vulnerable. In these cases, retirement homes and hospitals are likely to need additional cooling equipment.
Emergency cooling could also be required when unprecedented amounts of people crowd together in one closed space, and an extra push is needed to provide a constant flow of fresh air.

Industry

Most industrial operations require cooling at some point, mainly because heat is used in the production of most items, or is a side effect of the production process. Therefore industrial cooling fans are needed both to ensure successful production without any accidents such as fires and meltdowns, and to maintain employee health and safety.
Industrial fans are placed strategically throughout factories and other industrial environments such as mines for a steady flow of cool air. This flow is closely monitored as too much cold air could also prove dangerous in certain situations.
